The Lifelong Impact of Child Abuse on the Brain: Integrative Research Using Animal Models and Human Studies

In recent years, the number of child abuse cases has been steadily increasing. The suffering experienced by children is not limited to the time of abuse; it can also lead to complex pathologies of psychiatric disorders such as depression and neurodevelopmental disorders, that persist into adulthood and have long-term effects. However, many of the pathological mechanisms underlying these lifelong impacts remain unclear.
We are committed to tackling the challenges of elucidating these complex conditions by integrating research from multiple disciplines, breaking free from traditional frameworks. By leveraging the strengths of a team composed of clinical psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, we are advancing the development of methodologies that can be validated in both animal models and humans.
Our ultimate goal is to uncover the pathological mechanisms in humans. While valuing classical methods, such as histopathology, we remain committed to pursuing innovation and developing new approaches to advance research.
